Never in a million years did I think that this retreat would create a small family of people from across the country. My heart is shattered that we don’t always get to live together, eat together, and grow together whenever we want. I am so thankful for each and every person that made this retreat happen and I will forever be in their debt.
This was a workshop/retreat and real elopement all wrapped into one. Christy first contacted me in 2017 after I had gotten home from my first trip to Sedona because her and Dustin wanted to elope there. Then life happened, and the elopement was put on the back burner as we both suffered some heavy losses.
We kept in contact. We checked in with one another every couple of months and talked more about the elopement, but could never nail down the details quite right.
When I decided to host the retreat in Sedona I reached back out to Christy and asked if her and Dustin would want to finally get married, but that they’d have to be ok with 10 or so photographers being there. No charge. AND they could stay in the house with us to make it easier on them financially.
They said yes, I got ordained, AND I’m the one that actually married them. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget.
This is what I want every single retreat to be. Not that people have to ACTUALLY get married, but that we all connect and open up to one another in such a raw way. This is why I started hosting these. I want to build a community around mutual respect and education. I want the attendees to feel relaxed and comfortable digging in and asking questions, regardless of skill level. I want us all to be honest with one another and ourselves when it comes to where we need to be putting our energy. This is what education should be.
No secrets. No sharing partial information. No looking down on people that are less experienced, because we’re all equal here. Also, keeping a line of communication open and friendships in tact AFTER its all said and done. This is what it’s all about.
Check out everyones work that attended and follow them. Comment on their work, build friendships, because I promise these are A+ people who I love more than anything.
