Red River Gorge Wedding Photography Retreat by Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Brandi Potter
It’s taken me awhile to write this up but I have to say that this retreat was one of the best decisions I ever made. I am so happy I decided to try something new and put together a small get together for people to come learn and hang out in a relaxed environment. I’m incredibly lucky that other photographers trust me enough to want to learn from me and I can’t wait to do more of these little get togethers (the next is in Sedona).
I had my dear friends the Juniper Sisters design and style the styled shoot we put together. They are seriously some of the best in the business (I worked with them on this wedding as well) and if you’re planning a wedding or putting together a workshop PLEASE do yourself a favor and hire them. They listened to what I wanted and they did it perfectly. They handled every single thing with grace and poise, even when it ended up raining almost the entire day.
The attendees were also fantastic. Some friends and some new friends all attended. It made me SO HAPPY to see the way everyone connected. The way they all took the time to get to know one another. The way they helped one another and shared their tricks with each other. I love that they came into this experience with an open mind and ready to learn. This is what community is. It’s not sharing referrals. It’s not fake niceties in facebook groups. It’s this. I’m so thankful for this and these people and these friendships.
Attendees: Dana, Aaron, Caitlin, Ann, Alexa, Ariana, & Ashley
Models: Ella & Nayef
The Next Retreat still has beds available and will be in Sedona Arizona!
Dana was kind enough to write me a small review and here is what she had to say about the retreat:
“I’ve been to 3 of Brandi’s workshops now, and I learn something new every single time. She is incredibly supportive of building a creative community and transparency within that space for the growth of the whole. If I had to describe Brandi’s teaching methods in 3 words I would say that she is inclusive, communicative, and hands-on. Inclusive because she is very welcoming to all attendees regardless of experience. Communicative because she is speedy with her responses and always engaging with attendees; unafraid to share what works for her. And hands-on because she is ready to photograph or edit in-person with attendees; often in real scenarios with real couples and stylists.
She is always encouraging inclusivity and diversity within her own work as well as encouraging others to do the same. She encourages a judgement-free community with her casual, fun, and chill attitude, and eases tension for her attendees who may be nervous to photograph next to others they look up to or don’t know. She makes sure to communicate and offer time for everyone to be included in making similar photos that she’s aiming for during a shoot out and encourages experimentation and creating your own style too. There isn’t one way to do something. She is so real and transparent with everyone and truly wants to help others learn how to be their best. “
